Although it was the rst time the event had been cosanctioned by the Challenge Tour, it represented a successful title defence for Ritchie, who triumphed in the same event in the previous year on the Sunshine Tour.

At the end of a dicult week of weather delays which forced the tournament to be reduced to 54 holes, the 21-year-old Van Velzen signed for a nal round of 68 to win by a single stroke on 12 under par.
